Is your business falling into a dangerous trap? Follow these small business tips and learn from those who have already made some costly mistakes so you don’t have to!
Business Tips:
1. Lead with revenue, not expenses. Don’t spend before you earn. That also means not purchasing every shiny object.
— Hold your purchases accountable for what you planned for them. That means use of the class or product you just bought!
— Hold your expenses accountable for producing promised results. Take action!
2. Be your own guru. The fun news is that you already have emotional and spiritual intelligence to be your own guru…but, sometimes we just don’t know that it’s there to help us get through what we don’t understand.
Instead of searching for a know-it-all guru…
- You can get going on your 6-month grand goals.
- This is the start of empowering yourself with the knowledge you have and…
- Get help from someone you know like and trust as your Business Mentor.
Knowledge = confidence; Ignorance = fear.
3. Realize this is the new normal. This is the new normal market. Successful marketing today takes dedication, insight, authenticity and action.
4. Follow through and follow up. Any successful business person will tell you that their #1 source of business is repeats and referrals from past clients and influencers.
If you don’t stay on top of their minds, they will forget about you and your offers of expertise.
5. Live in the present. Make money with your business of the moment instead of focusing on what used to be or might be – be present in the here and now.
6. Don’t be a seminar junkie and a no-action flunkie.
It’s not enough to just read about, study, and learn what to do for your marketing and life vision.
You also have to take action and DO what you learn.
Get out of analysis paralysis and get into action.
- As a small business owner, you probably wear many hats – maybe even all of them if you’re a true solopreneur.
That means your time is already at a premium.
For your business to grow and thrive, you must use your time wisely and make the necessary efforts as you ask yourself, “Which hat am I wearing?”, “Which hat is most important for me to wear?”, always asking “Is this the best use of my time?”
It’s easy to get caught up in doing things that really are not important enough for you to be spending your time on.

“I am an expert in my field but I needed someone to help me put into words what I am an expert in. I needed a target because even though I am the expert, I didn’t even know how to communicate what I am about! After working with Coach Donna Ward, she was able to help me to hone in on my target client, create a summary of what I offer and I am now able to coherently communicate what makes me different from my competitors! She made it so easy, just by having a conversation, asking me a few questions and fine tuning of words, everything became so clear! Thank you Donna, you have truly changed the way I communicate with others about my business! Tracy A. Dempsey, Open Invitation Catering/Heart Link Area Coordinator, Riverside, CA

Thanks for your inciteful posts Donna L. Ward.

Wow, Sarah…Thank you – I hope to see you here again!
What great tips applicable to online or online business. Yes we need knowledge but Knowledge is not Power applied Knowledge is Power.
I particularly love lead with Revenue and now expenses. In the Online world we have such an information overload that it is so easy to keep purchasing courses and training and not taking action. Believe me I am a recovering non action taker.
