Why not get your best Facebook audience by borrowing from your competition’s audience?
✾ Growing your marketing awareness for your audience is tough.
✾ You’ve heard it so many times…be unique.
✾So knowing how you can learn more about and be different from your competitors is extremely important for you!
#1 Because you need a fabulous way to speed up building your Facebook targeted audience a bit…
Use like-type businesses, your competitors, to find your best Facebook targeted audience.
Building your Facebook business community can be, well, difficult, and every tip that works is a huge benefit!
Right?
Marketing on Facebook means you always need to find new ideas and great content to share. But more than that, your content must generate engagement to drive organic reach.
Your goal is to always find out how to build a long-term, sustainable fan base.
Marketing on Facebook is about building your ideal audience, your fan base needs to be the right audience:
YOU know that driving traffic to your website/blog, growing your email lists, and converting sales are business goals you can use for many Facebook pages.

But here’s the best part…
Why not get your best Facebook audience by borrowing from your competition’s audience?
⚡Get your Facebook power and get noticed!
You have to be heard through all the valuable content competing for the attention of your Facebook targeted audience.
Your planning and strategies will make it possible to reach your fans without spending your whole day on Facebook.
You know your target audience is out in the Facebook users’ universe and they log into their accounts at least once per day.
- That’s positively good for you as a business because Facebook really is your goldmine when you’re marketing for your own business.
So how can your competition, or like type businesses help you?
#2 You could start to learn more about the ‘People that Matter to Your Business with Facebook Audience Insights ‘ ← This is one of the most powerful marketers’ tools for you to use for your business!
-
- And, this is also an excellent way to explore and check out competitors that your audience ‘likes’.
- Go to Audience Insights. Clicking this link should bring you to your own audience insights.
- Choose an audience you want to look at. You can choose between everyone on Facebook, people who like certain pages (your competitors), or people connected to your Page.
- Or navigate to the Ads Manager, click on “Tools” at the top and select ”Audience Insights” from the drop-down menu.
- Select your audience.
- Save relevant pages – the pages your ideal audience has liked are a great start to check out what they like about your competitors and what those competitors are doing!
What if your audience is small?
Think about it this way…Your content will perform even better when you’re focused on a niche audience who are more likely interested in your products or services.(✿ ͡◕ ᴗ◕)?
#3 Look at your Facebook search bar for your competitors.
-
Here you can see how your competitors are promoting and engaging with their own Facebook targeted audience.
As an example: Let’s say your business promotes handmade hand soap. You would put ‘handmade hand
soap’ in the Facebook search bar and take a look at the sites that have a large number of ‘likes’ and see how they engage and what:
- Content is posted by them
- Content posted ABOUT them
- Engaged customer feedback
- You could use AgoraPulse, a free tool called the AgoraPulse Barometer for performance metrics on all aspects of your competitor’s Facebook page community and your own!
- LikeAlyzer gives you a rating out of 100 in comparison to other Pages and gives you some recommendations on how you can improve your own Page. Way Cool!
#4 Take a look on Google to find successful pages that are also your competitors, or like-type businesses.
- As an example: You could do a Google search to see what pops up say for Health Coaches or whatever you want to take a look at.
- I could search for ‘top health Facebook coaches’.
- Next, I just click on the website that Google shared from my research and I can choose the first one on the list to take a look at their Facebook page.
I’ll be going over to their page and looking at:
- How large is their following?
- How much engagement do they have on their posts?
- If they have a lot of interactions – likes, shares, comments, then I know they are posting what thier fans want to see more of.
- I’ll also take a good look at their videos and photos.
- From the information I gather, I’ll know that this page has a like-type audience and I can see what they are engaging in the most.
- Now I can model this page.
When I look at photos and videos, plus the posts of successful Facebook pages that have products/services similar to my own, I’m getting ideas of what I could do that attracts my audience that is very similar to theirs.
How can I model what they’re doing to attract more engagement and likes for my page?
#5 Sign up, watch, and learn your competition’s marketing content strategy
You can also check out some of your competitors’ audience and see what they are liking and probably want to see more of.
- Also, you might want to start making these your business friends. You want them to start seeing your stuff too. Right?
#6 Check out their messenger bots.
You’ll see what and how your competitors are doing some Facebook marketing. How?
- Visit their Facebook page.
- Their Messenger Bot pops up.
- Pay attention to their content, learn what you can/want to do, and model.
- See what their response time is.
- Do it for your own business page.
- Do it better.
This is a way you’ll quickly find out what and how your competitors are using to engage with page visitors helping you make your own plans to keep in touch with your audience in yet another way.
#7 Growing your marketing awareness for your audience is tough.
You’ve heard it so many times…be unique. So knowing how you’ll be different from your competitors is extremely important for you!
Have you ever thought about…
Focusing your content on trends and framing the content around a question and how your business helps?
Or in the case of the National Audubon Society, they frame the issue of climate change around how it directly affects birds.
- This helps attract a niche market on climate change and birds specifically. Plus gives them the content messaging that will connect to that audience as they create micro-marketing messaging in a variety of forms
- It will be much harder for your competition to compete with a trend that you’ve been able to use as a popular issue for your own work.
Do you see the value here?
You can get to work creating great content for your audience, engaging with as many people as possible – even as you’re finding out what and how your competitors are doing with their own Facebook targeted audience!
I’d love to hear from you! What are some of the ways you attract your Facebook targeted audiences?

I’ll be honest, I have not got the hang of Facebook. Every time I think I have it figured out, they change something. I want to try the AgoraPulse and see what I can discover.
I have been challenged by growing my FB following especially since we cannot ask for likes through giveaways. This is an interesting approach.
I just bookmarked Likealyzer as I am curious to see what my site’s rating is! Facebook is a tough nut to crack when it comes to gaining followers and engagement but I keep posting and trying hard as it is my #1 traffic source.
Thanks for sharing! I just launched my freelance business and am really trying to market it to the general public.
Great to hear, Jacqui – I’m sure I’ll be seeing a lot of you as I move around online!
This is great advice. I definitely need to find like blogs and try to figure out what their strategy is and copy that.
I am always trying to find ways to improve on facebook!! It is amazing how much they change what seems to work and doesn’t work.
Facebook is frustrating and I feel like I don’t really have the time to put into it like i’d like. This is some really great advice.
I haven’t tried this strategy yet actually, but I can see how it would be really helpful! I Will need to give this one a try.
Thx, Krystal – that is fun to hear –
Great advice!!! I study my competitors all the time!!!! It’s the best way to find out what people are really into
Facebook is not my favorite social media channel.. Its still generating traffic
Thx Rika for your note – would love to hear how you’re generating traffic 🙂
I am a relatively new blogger. So, I really need any advice I can get. I will definitely be checking our AgoraPulse and Barometer to imporve my FaceBook audience reach.
Thank you, Chrishelle, Congrats on your blogging and for taking the steps to learn more – 🙂
I spent some time yesterday just going over my last couple of months posts to see how much traffic each category generated. That was eye opening and showed a lot of room for adjustment. There is a pattern there so I can quit wasting time with what seems to be what I now call “Fill-ins” and post more of what they actually react to in numbers. Today I will rename the page so that it is more specific in the title. After that, I will look around at others that could be giving me more ideas.
This is so helpful! I am always trying to build my Facebook page. I’ll try out your tips!
I really enjoyed reading this post and found so much helpful information. Can’t wait to implement your tips
Thank you so much, Tasheena!
When I choose remarketing, I usually try to target people who have visited my website. This way, the audience might be smaller, but they already experienced my site – so now I’m trying to get them to come back.
An excellent plan, Katie 🙂
Always great to check out what others are doing and how they are doing on different things
I have to say Pinterest is my favorite but this would be something interesting to learn more about. Maybe Facebook isn’t so bad, maybe I just don’t know the secrets yet. 🙂
Thank you so much, this article is helpful.
Thank you and glad to hear it – Coach Donna
This is an interesting approach. I like Fb for personal use. I don’t consider myself to have competitors and don’t find it a useful place for me to spend a ton of effort.
I like using Facebook but I have not used any of these other sites that can increase my followers. I will try to incorporate them into my repertoire.
I was just considering getting back into Facebook advertising so this is timely information for me. I appreciate the tips! I am going to implement your strategies for advertising on Facebook!
This is awesome. I’m off to test out these strategies. Can’t wait to check out AgoraPulse. Thanks!
It is my hobby to look at other’s facebook page and be inspired by their ideas. Thanks for sharing!
