Do You Know Your Blog’s Value Proposition?

blogs-value-propositionThink about your blog’s value proposition.

Got it?

Just in case you need some help (I seem to always need it!)

Here’s a quick definition:

  • Your Blog’s Value Proposition is the specific benefits you provide to meet, and go beyond, the targeted needs of your readers and site visitors.
  • Even as you are using your blog to share your skills, expertise and value.

So think about this – What’s in it for your readers?

Your blog’s value proposition is closely tied to your brand positioning which answers questions like: who you are, what you offer, who you serve, what makes you different?

But it’s more than just your promotional message, since it also needs to show what you can offer in the way of valuable content to your ideal visitor.

  • The value content you offer is one of the benefits your audience wants more of to keep them coming back.
  • It’s one of the experiences you can offer to engage your ideal audience and prospective clients.

Your work in understanding your blog’s value proposition, will be to identify the reasons why your site’s visitors will:

  • click on,
  • return for more,
  • give you their name and email to be on your mailing list,
  • register for an event,
  • maybe buy from your site,
  • feel motivated enough to share their experience on other Social Media platforms.

Your blog’s value proposition needs to state the core benefits a visitor will get from your site’s content – and how that ties to your overall goal, product or service.

So – to go over this a bit more – your online visitor’s first impressions are formed within the first .05 millisecond – whether it’s your blog or any Social Media platform.

Your visitors’ experiences are all part of your blog’s value proposition – it’s your promise to your visitor – and it is you clarifying and enlightening them as to what they can expect from you.

This is key. You really need to ‘get’ it and implement – you’ll be informing them about:

  • How will you help them solve a problem?

Say for my audience– I solve a problem with how to build your email list with Social Media and your blog. And, I offer my monthly  f.ree tele-classes at donnalward.com/buildyourlist

  • What are your benefits that you have for them?

For me, it’s easiest to answer these in reverse order.
How are you different from others?
I am in the health and wellness field. I have a unique perspective as a Registered Nurse with advanced certifications (Certified Pediatric Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Counselor). Unlike many in my space, I have the background to know when it is important to see a physician or seek standard emergency care. I also know when Western medicine is NOT the right choice and how to use natural remedies to help offset the side effects when Western medicine is required. Plus, as a mother of eight, I truly understand how hard it is for parents to balance out all the noise out there to see what is truly helpful and what is just propaganda.

What are your benefits that you have for them?
My benefits would be helping moms to have more confidence in their ability to tend to their families’ health without worrying that they are missing something “big”.

How will you help them solve a problem?
This is the tricky one for me. I post articles on my blog that I hope are informative and useful. I post on my Facebook page. I am going to be starting a series of online Facebook event-based classes to teach different aspects of caring for your families’ health (these will be free but with signup required) and a series of web based webinars (both live and recorded).

Wow… just thinking through all that was hugely encouraging! Thank you!

I’ve never heard of Blog’s Value Proposition before and had to read the description a couple of times to understand it. But your points are quite valid. And I didn’t realize that someone formed an impression of your blog that quickly!!

Most of the bloggers I’ve visited with haven’t paid much ‘outloud’ attention to their Blog’s Value Proposition – it may be somewhere as their writing and thinking about what to say – we just need to keep it on top of our minds and current in our thinking 🙂 Thank you Vivette for your note
