Parkinson’s Law and Business

parkinsons-law-and-businessOne of the principles of Parkinson’s Law and Business is the use of your time.

‘Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion, without producing better results.’ – Cecil Northcote Parkinson

This means that the easiest way to create time in your business and life is to take control over your time and you can debunk Parkinson’s Law and Business for yourself.

So what do you do?

Have you ever noticed that when you aren’t feeling as pressured to get something done that your tasks seem to extend just to fill the expanded time frame.

AWARENESS IS KEY

–          Once you know that Parkinson’s Law and Business exists, you know to watch out for it and resist its gravitational pull.

Your awareness of the Parkinson’s Law and Business can encourage you to discover ways to improve your effective productivity and give yourself more freedom.

You can take steps to transform your business and life from the ordinary into the extraordinary.

–          You can have your favorite mantra as, “I don’t have time for anything I’m not fully committed to because it’s simply stealing time from my freedom to do other things I love to do.”

–          You can then be much more successful, with intentional planning.

It’s about being conscious of your time, projects and priorities, getting stuff done and making it happen in the shortest time possible. It’s about being your own master of the Parkinson’s Law and Business.

May I ask you this…What is your relationship to time?

What if you have a relationship to time which often doesn’t work for you?

The thing with a time management problem is that you’re not doing the things you really want to be doing. You don’t see that you’re producing the results in you want.

Maybe you feel like you’re making the wrong choices.

How is it even possible to change it?

Look at everything from a more systematic approach and carry out your business mission in a much bigger way.

Try this…

–          Focus on one just one project, aiming for a deadline.

–          Instead of giving yourself a few minutes a day to complete a big project…give a whole 2 hours over to that project for completion.

–          You may achieve much better results.

As Zig Ziglar said: “…as a general rule, you get about twice as much work done on the day before you go on vacation as you normally get done…”

That’s because when your work has a deadline, you’ll do what you need to do to eliminate all the unnecessary work and concentrate only on essential tasks.

You can debunk the Parkinson Law and Business.

We set up a follow up date to chat more. But without Coach Donna L. Ward’s tips and training I may have not implemented these practices of emailing and setting time to do my calls. I get so excited when I see it working! Just had to share! Thanks so much Donna! My business just went BOOM with the activity I have added to my calendar.” Marsha Landeros Benefit with Arbonne

I like your reference to the late Zig Ziglar. I’ve pondered this law a lot in reference to myself and my special needs son. He has no concept of time and often resists being hurried in his tasks. We wonder how much of it is because he doesn’t WANT to do things versus he doesn’t know HOW to do things. It’s hard to know for sure because he withholds words as to communicate for clarity.

For me, I find that I am motivated and have considerable focus and yet I take a really long time to get things done. I’m not even a procrastinator. Luckily, I get most things done ahead of schedule and am dependable. It’s nice to know that other people think this deeply and as if it matters. Sometimes it feels like I’m the only one that cares.

Wonderful that you share, Meredith – thank you. I am honored that you feel I am a deep thinker – (as an Intuitive and a strategist) – I wrote this post with a few of my own clients in mind along with my own struggles to write from I believe there are a lot of people that need guidance here. 🙂 Big hugs, Coach Donna
