Do You Know Your Bounce Rate?

Bounce Rate, what is that? Have you ever wondered what the big deal is about your site’s bounce rate, or analyzing your web traffic statistics? Probably really never thought much about it, right?

There are great benefits involved when you know the bounce rate for your site.

  • The saying goes ‘High Bounce rate? Low conversion.’

As an example: For bounce rates over 65%, you’ll want to review each page and…
•  Analyze and test how content, keywords or placement could improve rate to at least 50% bounce rate, as a rule.

But, what does a bounce rate mean?

As defined by Google Analytics: The percentage of single-page visits (i.e. visits in which the person left your site from the entrance page). Bounce rate is a measure of visit quality and a high Bounce Rate generally indicates that the site entrance (landing) pages aren’t relevant to your visitors.

==>There is an argument as to whether Google takes your Bounce Rate into account  as many of the factors when determining how to rank your site. But, YOU want people to stay around your site, and that means that you need to improve your Bounce Rate.

Some steps to improve your site, and keep your visitor’s interest and conversion higher:

1.  Provide relevant information to your targeted audience. That’s an easy one. A reader who feels you understand them and have gone through the process is already pre sold.

2. Have your external links open in a new window.

3. Make sure your pages load quickly.

4. I know that I’m an impatient reader. I skim. And, I’ve read that nowadays most people do the same.

==> I insert convenient headers, dividers, colors changes, quotes, and bullet points into my blog posts. And, I teach my own clients to do the same. If it stands out, I know, I’ll notice it more quickly. How about you?

5. The right titles keep users clicking on and on, reading post after post, and coming back for more. Google your title, or partial title, and see how many people are searching for that.

When I started my blog years ago, I didn’t pay any attention to analytics. Sounded boring to me. But, once I learned more, it became a fun challenge. I hope you’ll look at it that way for yourself…

    Hi Donna!

Oh my gosh! I never thought about this. Argh! More to do! I pray mine is not too high because I do not have time to look at it right now. Perhaps something to look at in 2014. Thank you 🙂

    Wendy

    Hello Donna,

I have been reviewing these statistics regularly on my blog and it is important to take note of this. If you are seeing a high bounce rate then you need to change the look, feel and even perhaps the content offering of your blog. Thanks a lot for the reminder 🙂
